About Raku
The word "raku" means "joy, pleasure".
Raku is one of the ceramic arts created by ancient Japanese masters.
The raku process consists of taking the still-incandescent piece of pottery out of the kiln and putting it immediately into water or into a closed container filled with combustible material, such as sea-weed, leaves, paper, or sawdust.
In this oxygen-free environment, the non-glazed parts of the object turn black, and the piece acquires the desired and characteristic metallic effect.

Raku ceramics are designed as decorative pieces. They are unsuitable for use as containers for water or food.
